In these charts -- which were kindly produced 7 years ago out of a request and challenge that I gave to my friend and neighbor who is my State's Water Resources director -- you will notice that the livestock operations of meat, dairy, poultry and pork ranching and animal feeds (alfalfa, corn, grains) agriculture and their processing constitute in excess of 85% of the total water usage in all human activities that places demands upon my State's finite and fast diminishing water supplies!  This data also reflects the nation's and the world's equivalent foolish water uses disparity within a severe worsening of clean and adequate water supply problems!

So if you want to save enormous amounts of water -- to free it up for more beneficial needs and purposes -- stop demanding and consuming high-water-use-requiring animal products!  The environment and planet will be healthier! -- and so will be your children and you!
- - - - -
The amount of water saved by giving up just one hamburger is the same (approx. 2,600 gal) as the water saved by changing out an older 5 gal flush toilet with the new low water (now legally required in our state) 1.4 gal flush toilet -- if you flushed it twice a day for an entire year!
That is: 5 gal - 1.4 gal = 3.6 gal x 365 days x 2 (twice a day) = 2,628 gal! the close equivalent quantity of water used to produce one fatty health and environment hurting hamburger!
- - - - - - - -
One hamburger is also the water equivalent used to grow more than a year and two months, twice a day servings worth of tomatoes! Over 6 months worth of potatoes or lettuce! 3 months worth of Bread or Apples! Or 2 months worth of oranges or its wonderful juices!

One hamburger is the water equivalent used to produce a full week's worth (i.e. 7 days, three times a day, of breakfast, lunch and dinner) of nutritionally complete, fully healthy, delicious meals (with a much greater variety) -- and with much less expense! -- in the less than 125 gal needed to grow and prepare the average meal within a true 100% Vegetation (Vegan)
-- that is, a wholly plant based diet!

The State, the Nation, and the whole world would be greener, more pleasant; and her humanity would be more easily provided with water and fed -- with bounty and good health --

also the need for the production of fertilizer with its fluoride waste product
problem would be drastically reduced!

-- if all ate directly from the garden!
- - - - -
You do the math! -- Prove it for yourself! Then make the right choices for your own health, your children's health and the health of the environment! Our State, our Nation and our World! -- Do it for all Humanity's future, as well as your own!  (tlr-7/4/02)
